Winter School 2, Stavanger, November 26-28. 2024

Wow, what an incredible few days we had at the Tools4Teams Winter School in Stavanger! The energy was amazing from start to finish.

The event commenced with an in-depth presentation on complex systems and teamwork by Travis Wiltshire, offering valuable insights and stimulating thoughtful discussion. Following this, Petter Viksveen from the University of Stavanger provided practical guidance on questionnaire design.

In the afternoon, Natalie Evans from Amsterdam UMC delivered a virtual session focused on Open Science, which fostered engaging discussions among participants. Later, Asma and Jicke led an interactive Lego-Team-Exercise that encouraged collaboration.

The evening concluded with a social gathering at the Ydalir Hotel, where participants enjoyed pizza before proceeding to an ice-skating activity at Sørmarka Arena. Let’s just say some of us discovered they’re better researchers than skaters! 😄

Day 2 featured an insightful visit to the SAFER simulation center, led by Elsa Søyland, followed by an in-depth session on debriefing techniques conducted by Jan Schmutz and Peter Dieckmann. Participants had the opportunity to apply these techniques in hands-on simulation scenarios. The day concluded with a dinner at Karina’s farmhouse, where 12 Tools4Teams PhD candidates, 12 SHARE PhD candidates and postdocs, and senior researchers gathered for rapid-fire presentations, combining networking, humor, and scientific discussion.

The final day focused on practical skills and knowledge sharing. Tanja Manser and Paul O’Connor provided valuable strategies for disseminating research, while Jo Røislien (University of Stavanger) delivered an engaging introduction to advanced statistics, prompting thought-provoking discussions. Additionally, Natalie Sanford from King’s College London facilitated a session on leadership, encouraging participants to reflect on personal development. The event concluded with a dinner hosted by Norwegian DCs Jicke and Asma, offering a fitting end to the program.

Massive thanks to Sissel Husebø, Karina Aase, Jicke Höök, Lene Schibevaag, and Asma Sabri for putting together such an unforgettable experience. Having SHARE PhD candidates join some sessions created wonderful opportunity for networking.
