The Tools4Teams Winter School took place from the 28th to the 30th of November in the snow-covered town of Olten, Switzerland. We participated in a variety of compelling courses and workshops focusing on teamwork aspects, such as non-technical skills, shared mental models, and resilience. Additionally, we delved into topics like Safety I and II, qualitative and quantitative research methods, simulation-based training, and effective presentation and writing skills. A highlight of the event was the opportunity for doctoral candidates to present their research posters in front of fellow students and principal investigators fostering discussions and receiving helpful feedback.
Of course, no winter school would be complete without a touch of team-building fun. Therefore, we embarked on an excursion to Aarau, where we tried our hands (for the first time, for everyone!) at curling. After demonstrating our newfound curling skills, we concluded the evening with a delightful serving of heavenly Swiss fondue.
Overall this experience helped the doctoral candidates to foster a sense of belonging in the group and to exchange ideas and suggestions for projects and future collaborations.
It was a blast to see the group coming closer and to witness the emotional and academic support provided by the other doctoral candidates and principal investigators. We cannot wait for the next scheduled event, the Spring School in June 2024 in Bonn, Germany.
